(May 16, 2017) – Hagerstown Community College held its 70th annual spring commencement on Saturday, May 13, in the Athletic, Recreation and Community Center at HCC. HCC President Guy Altieri and members of the board of trustees awarded 376 degrees and certificates to the spring 2017 graduating class. During the first fall commencement held in December of 2016, 293 degrees and certificates were awarded.
The HCC dean of students reports that 194 associate degrees in the transfer curricula were awarded to spring graduates who plan to continue their education at a four-year institution. The top choices of colleges for HCC graduates in transfer programs are the University of Maryland, Towson University, Shepherd University, Frostburg State University, and Shippensburg University. Other transfer institutions include Virginia Tech, Juniata College, The United States Military Academy at West Point, St. Mary’s College, and many others.
Nursing was the most popular program of study, followed by business administration and general studies. Of the spring graduates, 139 completed programs in STEMM (science, technology, engineering, math, and medical) fields.
Awards for academic achievement were presented at the Honors Convocation, held on May 11.
