(March 30, 2017) – The Athletic Department at Hagerstown Community College will offer a women’s soccer team starting this fall on campus. The team will play under the direction of Coach Clifton Williams who was named HCC’s first head women’s soccer coach in February 2017.
“We are very excited to have an alumnus leading the Women's Soccer program onto the field this fall. Coach Williams has a great deal of coaching experience and is well-respected in the region,” said HCC Director of Athletics Robert Rohan. “He expects our young women to excel in the classroom, and compete at a high level on the soccer field.”
A Hagerstown Junior College graduate and student athlete, Williams will bring his soccer career back to HCC. He most recently served as the head coach for the Martinsburg High School Varsity Boys’ Soccer Team, where he led Martinsburg to the semifinals of the Eastern Panhandle Athletic Conference (EPAC) sectional tournament.
He currently serves as president of the Tri-County Soccer Club in Martinsburg, W.Va. Since taking over, the club has grown from five teams and 100 players to 27 teams and 400 players competing in the NCSL and ODSL leagues in the Washington D.C./Baltimore region. Williams received his associate degree from HCC, and is currently working towards his bachelor degree in applied management at Grand Canyon University.
