HCC receives grant for new environmental studies program

(September 1, 2017) – Hagerstown Community College recently received a grant from the Maryland Agricultural Education and Rural Development Assistance Fund (MAERDAF), administered by the Rural Maryland Council, for $29,813, to hire an assistant to help support the development of the new environmental studies program.

The environmental studies associate of science degree program is designed to provide students with new academic opportunities to study science, policy, and regional and global environmental issues.

The MAERDAF grant will be used to fund a part-time recruiter/curriculum development assistant to work with lead faculty to help recruit students for the new environmental studies program, assist with the planning of a summer institute for K-12 teachers, work with faculty to develop curriculum to support the environmental studies program, and help develop collaborative relationships with community partners.
