(Release: March 4, 2011) - Two Hagerstown Community College students were recently awarded academic scholarships for the spring 2011 semester.
Joseph Monath, of Hagerstown, received the Larry E. Small Memorial Law Enforcement Scholarship. Recipients of the Larry Small Scholarship must demonstrate outstanding leadership, be active members of the 5-14 Club, be involved in extra-curricular activities, and have an above-average academic record at HCC. Monath is an administration of justice major and plans to transfer to UMUC to complete his bachelor’s degree before becoming a police officer. He will graduate from HCC in May 2011.
Fellow administration of justice major, James Garcia, of Hagerstown, received the Maryland Law Enforcement Officers Scholarship (MLEO). The MLEO scholarship is awarded by faculty representatives from HCC’s administration of justice department to those eligible students working towards an associate of applied science degree in the administration of justice field. After graduation, Garcia plans to work for an investigative agency for a short time before becoming a police officer. He will graduate in July 2011.
