Example work from HCC portraiture class

Hagerstown Community College will offer a portraiture class on Thursday afternoons, from 1 to 4:35 p.m., beginning January 10, in the Kepler Center.

Through lecture and working from live models each week, students gain an understanding of the cranial skeleton and how it can impact the power of the portrait. Students will explore the complexities of facial features, facial expressions, gesture, body language, and environment, as ways to strengthen the interpretation of a personality.

The spring portraiture class is a three-credit class designed for students with basic drawing skills who wish to broaden their ability to create strong visual images. Charcoal and conté are recommended initially, but those who are adept at other media will be encouraged to use them.
