Former Hagerstown Junior College President, Dr. Norman P. Shea, passed away on Sept. 23, after a long illness. Shea served as HCC’s second president from 1986 to 2002.
Registration for spring 2015 classes begins on Monday, Oct. 27. Students can register online via WebAdvisor beginning at 6 a.m. Registration questions should be directed to the Admissions Office.
Renovation and expansion of the existing Student Center began on Sept. 12. The renovation will continue throughout the next year and will finish in fall 2015. During that time, hours for the Student Center will be reduced. The new hours will go into effect on Mon., Sept. 22.
From Sept. 22 through Oct. 3, the Adult Education Program is offering free GED® practice tests to all students, new or returning. Practice tests will be administered in the Learning Resource Center (LRC).

A free showing of Dead Poets Society starring Robin Williams will be held on Friday, Sept. 19, at 7 p.m., and Saturday, Sept. 20, at 2 p.m., in the Behavioral Sciences and Humanities (BSH) Auditorium, room 114. This event is free and is open to students, staff, and faculty.
The annual HCC Club Fair will be held on Thurs., Sept. 18, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Waltersdorf Quad near the Student Center. This event is free and is open to all HCC students.
The annual Mega Job Fair will be held on Friday, Sept. 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Valley Mall in Hagerstown. The event will feature on-the-spot interviews with a number of area employers, resume reviews, and career resources. Free and open to the public.
HCC’s Continuing Education and Business Services Division meets with local business leaders to develop and deliver programs that keep their employees’ skills sharp. In FY14, Continuing Education delivered many contracted training sections to business clients across the region.
On Thursday, Sept. 11, an "Arrive Alive" Distracted Driving Simulator will be on campus from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. outside the Student Center. Any HCC student is welcome to try the simulator, which is intended to show how quickly texting and driving can cause traffic accidents.
An open house for the Advanced Manufacturing Technician Program will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 8, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the HCC Valley Mall Center. This program is intended for applicants who are interested in manufacturing jobs. Free and open to the public.
