The Children’s Learning Center at Hagerstown Community College held its annual Fall Fest on October 12. Teachers planned a variety of outdoor activities that included an obstacle course, face painting, ring toss games, a campus “pumpkin patch,” and other fun games.
Hagerstown Community College’s Robinwood Players will present Mary Shelley’s “Frankenstein,” on Nov. 2, 3, and 4, in the Kepler Theater on HCC’s main campus. Show times are 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 2, and Saturday, Nov. 3, with a matinee performance on Sunday, Nov. 4, at 2:30 p.m. The show is rated PG-13. Hagerstown Community College’s Advancement Office is now accepting applications for the HCC Foundation Scholarship. The deadline for the spring semester is Friday, January 4, 2019.
Dot Foods recently donated a 2012 Volvo VNL model tractor with auto-shift to the truck driver training program at Hagerstown Community College. This is HCC’s newest model tractor, and will add an automatic transmission tractor to the school’s fleet, for the purpose of CDL-A training and MVA testing purposes.
Two students at Hagerstown Community College each received a scholarship in the amount of $2,887 for the 2018-2019 school year, as a result of funds raised from the first Cody Butts Memorial Motorcycle Ride, which was held in 2017.
During the 2018 spring and summer semesters, HCC English students, Johanna Bulley, Lynn Martin, and Mike Tucker, interned with HCC’s literary magazine, the Hedge Apple. As editors, they brought a new energy and vision to the magazine, including the acceptance of worldwide contributions; publishing and marketing on Amazon; and distribution to 40 contributors of prose, poetry, art, and creative nonfiction.
In recognition of Maryland Manufacturing Month, two technology students at Hagerstown Community College recently programmed the college’s industrial robot to hold a knife and cut a cake that was served to a room of fellow students. HCC offers an associate degree in advanced manufacturing systems, a certificate in industrial technology, and a certificate in basic electronics.
Hagerstown Community College has been selected to receive funding from the U.S. Department of Education, under the Child Care Access Means Parents in School (CCAMPIS) Program, in the amount of $51,950 a year, for up to four years. The funds will be used to help Pell-eligible (low income) students pay for child care.
Hagerstown Community College’s Alumni Association will host its annual Alumni & Friends Cruise in winter 2019. The 11-day cruise will be held from February 15 through February 25, 2019, aboard Princess Cruise Line’s “Crown Princess.” Port stops include Fort Lauderdale, Florida; Princess Cays, Bahamas; St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands; Dominica; Grenada; Bonaire; and Curacao.
Hagerstown Community College will host the Ricardo Marlow and Group as part of its Kepler Concert Series on Sunday, Oct. 14, at 3 p.m., in the Kepler Theater.
