The Pharmacy Technician Program at Hagerstown Community College has been approved as an official administration site for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) exam. This will allow pharmacy technician students to easily take the exam to become certified, after they have completed the three required courses at HCC.
The Hagerstown Community College Board of Trustees has approved a tuition freeze for the 2016-2017 academic year. HCC’s tuition rates remain among the lowest in the four-state area. The registration and general college fee will also remain unchanged for the upcoming year.
Hagerstown Community College’s Student Financial Aid Office currently has a limited number of S-STEM scholarships available for full-time students majoring in STEM programs at HCC during the 2016-2017 academic year. The early decision deadline is Monday, May 2, and the fall semester deadline is Monday, August 1.
Hagerstown Community College’s Political Science Club will host an anti-human trafficking event on Thursday, March 17, at 3 p.m., in the Behavioral Sciences and Humanities Building, room 102. Guest speakers from local interest group, Stop Trafficking Our People (STOP), and the League of Women Voters will join HCC’s Political Science Club to help spread awareness about human trafficking in Washington County.

Hagerstown Community College is offering an accelerated Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) course this summer. The course will allow students to become a National Registry-Certified EMT in 15 weeks. Classes begin on May 10 and are held on Tuesdays and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Four Hagerstown Community College students recently won awards during the Maryland Society of Radiologic Technologists Student Essay Competition and Ted Lynch Award recognition. In this year’s essay competition, three HCC students won the top awards. Essay winners included Stephanie Mejias, of Hagerstown, who received first place; Jessica Aswall, of Mt. Airy, who received second place; and Kelly Barninch, of Hagerstown, who received third place.
Hagerstown Community College is offering academic advising support for students who have attended HCC in the past but didn’t finish their degree. Academic advising support is available to help students find out how close they are to completion of an associate degree. Students from Hagerstown Community College’s Elements of Dramatic Production course will perform Don Zolidis’ “The Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon,” from Friday, March 18, through Sunday, March 20, in the Kepler Center Blackbox Theater on HCC’s main campus. Show times are 8 p.m. on March 18 and 19. A special matinee performance will be held on March 20 at 2:30 p.m.
As part of the fourth annual Mid-Atlantic Fiction Writers Institute (MAFWI) at Hagerstown Community College, HCC will also offer a special two-day writing institute for teen writers between the ages of 13 and 19. The Hub City Teen Writers Institute, will be held on Friday, Aug.12, and Saturday, Aug. 13, the same weekend as MAFWI, and will feature a series of workshops and events specially geared towards aspiring fiction writers and poets.
