Hagerstown Community College held its 68th annual commencement on Saturday, May 16, at 9:30 a.m., in the Athletic, Recreation, and Community Center at HCC. HCC President Guy Altieri and members of the board of trustees awarded 720 degrees and certificates to HCC’s largest graduating class ever, before a crowd of more than 2,000 people.
The HCC dean of students reports that 461 students received associate degrees in the transfer curricula, designed for students planning to continue their education at a four-year institution. The top choices of colleges for HCC graduates in the transfer program are Shepherd University, Frostburg State University, Shippensburg University, and the University of Maryland. Nursing was the most popular curricula for the two-year, career-oriented students, followed by business administration and general studies.
Of the graduates, 336 completed programs in STEMM (science, technology, engineering, math, and medical) fields. This represents a 23 percent increase in STEMM graduates from the previous year.
Awards for academic achievement were presented at the Honors Convocation, held on May 14.
