Hagerstown Community College recently received approval from the Middle States Commission on Higher Education to offer programs of study completely online.
“We have been offering online courses for several years and they have been growing in popularity,” said Guy Altieri, HCC president. “We are now able to offer complete programs of study online, which we know will be a great convenience to many students.”
Altieri points out that this option is a very popular one for people whose schedules don’t permit them to attend college at the traditional times, including stay-at-home mothers or fathers, military personnel, especially those who are stationed overseas, and working adults who prefer to attend class on their own schedules.
Programs that are now available completely online include associate’s degrees in business administration, general studies, and arts and sciences, and several certificate and letters of recognition programs. Several other programs are currently available with 75 percent of the coursework offered online, including associate’s degrees in accounting, education, English, English education, history, history education, management, and political science. HCC will continue to add more online courses and programs in the coming months.
The accreditation by Middle States allows these programs to easily transfer to other accredited colleges and universities. HCC has a special agreement with University of Maryland University College (UMUC) that allows HCC students to transfer all their online credits directly into UMUC’s online programs.
