Duties: Peer Tutors provide academic support for a variety of subject areas at Hagerstown Community College. Tutors work in group settings to provide content-specific assistance to students who have requested help.

However, they must demonstrate proficiency in the content areas (via an instructor reference) for which they apply. Ability to tutor multiple subjects is a plus. Skills needed for specific areas are listed below.
English Tutors must have passed ENG-102 (Composition and Literature) with an A, and demonstrate reasonable proficiency in (or a willingness to learn) English grammar and sentence structure. A writing sample or two should be submitted with the application paperwork.
Math Tutors must have passed MAT 101 (College Algebra) or a higher math course with an A and must be able to tutor more than one level of Math.
Science Tutors must have received an A in any course they wish to Tutor as well as having an instructor reference for that specific course.
Tutors are hired for other subjects based on campus needs, which may vary each semester.
Hours per week: Varies, however, no more than 29 hours per week.
Additional Information: All Tutoring and group study sessions take place in one of Hagerstown Community College's Learning Centers or an otherwise staff- or faculty- approved location on College Campus. When not actively working with students, Tutors perform various administrative duties as support staff within the centers.
