Hagerstown Community College’s pharmacy technician program recently received extended accreditation by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) Commission on Credentialing for two additional years. HCC is one of only two accredited technician training programs in the state of Maryland and the only accredited program in the tri-state region.
The ASHP Commission on Credentialing is responsible for the accreditation of pharmacy residencies and pharmacy technician training programs. This includes formulating and recommending changes in standards, assessing programs adherence to compliance of the standards, and recommending accreditation status of programs. The ASHP Commission on Credentialing consists of appointed individuals that have been actively involved in accredited pharmacy residency or technician training programs or is a public member.
HCC’s pharmacy technician certificate program consists of 28-credit hours of course work which prepares students to work as pharmacy technicians in retail and institutional health care settings. HCC also offers an associate’s degree in pre-pharmacy. For more information, visit www.hagerstowncc.edu/pharmacy .
