Career Advisors assist students who are undecided about their program of study. Career Advisors can help undecided students make important education and career decisions, and demonstrate how HCC can help facilitate their vocational goals. Appointments are scheduled by calling the Information Center at, (240)500-2000.
Step 1: Self-Assessment -The first step in your career-planning process is to obtain a good understanding of your interests, values, skills and personality style. Career Advisors offers an assortment of career interest inventories such as the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, the Strong Interest Inventory, and the online career exploration tool, Choices Planner. After taking assessments, you may work collaboratively with your Career Advisor to understand and utilize the results of your assessments in your career search.
Choices Planner Career Exploration  - Choices Planner is an online service to assist with your career exploration process. This is especially great if you're not sure about your Program of Study here at HCC.
Step 2: Career Exploration - The second step in your career planning process is to gain knowledge about available majors and career options. One major can lead to many career options. By learning about different careers, you can narrow down your choices to those that are a good fit. This can be done by researching occupations, career fields, and the job market using various career websites .
Step 3: Making Decisions and Educational Planning - The third step in the process is to make a decision and to devise a plan of action. Career Advisors can help you create a plan with target dates for completion, evaluate your progress toward meeting your goals, and make adjustments if needed.
Step 4: Reevaluate - Periodically reevaluate your circumstances and repeat the process at the appropriate stage. This procedure may be repeated several times during your life.
