Career Options: This program has a dual focus: visual design and software development. Typically web designers and web developers work for a company, university, or nonprofit organization. Many are also free lancers or own their own small business. Experience is a necessity for our students so our internship program places students with local web design companies in their final semester. The program has a strong emphasis on building the student's portfolio so they are ready for their first interview upon graduation. More information on the current state of careers in web design including salary, work weeks and benefits can be found at A List Apart .
Career Outlook: According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook (2010-11), projected software engineer positions are expected to increase by 32% in the next eight years; growth far above other career fields. Graphic designer positions with a web and multimedia focus are expected to increase by 13% by 2018.
