The Office of Public Information
The Office of Public Information and Government Relations seeks to enhance communication and facilitate information sharing about the College both internally and externally.
Its primary functions are to serve as the gatekeeper for the release of information to the media and other external audiences, support student recruitment efforts, plan and direct all College marketing efforts, and assist in building and maintaining good working relationships with local and state elected officials.
College staff who are contacted by news reporters or other media officials should contact the Public Information Office at 240-500-2265 before speaking to the press or disseminating college‐related information to the media.
The Public Information Office also maintains the HCC website, institutional videos, and all college-related social media content.
All campus publications including promotional and marketing materials, college catalogs, course schedules, program brochures, and other college publications are produced through the Public Information Office.
Examples of college publications include:

Social Networking & Social Media
The Public Information Office at HCC maintains pages on Facebook , Twitter , and LinkedIn as a way to provide announcements and information on upcoming events and activities, as well as to provide a forum for open discussion among students, faculty, staff, and the community.
The “official” HCC institutional pages on Facebook and Twitter are maintained by the Public Information Office. Individual departments, student clubs, and other campus entities must contact the Public Information Office prior to creating a Facebook page, Twitter account, or LinkedIn group. A full list of social networking guidelines including the Facebook Code of Conduct can be found on the Social Networking page .
Web and Multimedia
The HCC website is maintained by the Public Information Office. Web site tutorials can be found on the Web site FAQ page . Questions, issues, or concerns with the Web site can be directed to email@example.com .
College and institutional videos are created and produced internally through the Public Information Office. Videos can be found on the HCC video page or on HCC's YouTube channel .
To keep students and staff informed about campus emergencies, HCC uses e2Campus: an automated messaging system that sends messages to your cell phone and college email account in the event of a college closing, weather‐related delay, or other emergency. Visit the e2campus page to sign-up.
In the event of a weather‐related delay or college closing, announcements are made on local radio and TV stations, posted on the HCC Web site, posted on the official college Facebook and Twitter pages, and noted on the college switchboard recording. Students and others who have business at HCC are cautioned to listen for specific mention of HCC being closed, since the college does not always close when weather conditions make it
necessary for the Washington County Public Schools to close.
To learn more about college closings, go to College Closings page .
Public Services/Facility Rentals
HCC makes several of its facilities available for outside groups to rent when not in use for college-related classes and activities. For a full list of available facilities, go to the Facility Rentals page .
Bulletin Board Posting Guidelines
Campus bulletin boards are maintained by the Student Activities Office. Outside groups wishing to post flyers must contact the Student Activities Office prior to posting. Call 240-500-2225, or email firstname.lastname@example.org .
