HCC honors students’ academic achievements at 17th annual Honors Convocation
HCC recently held its 17th annual Honors Convocation. The event recognized special awards, graduation honors, dean’s list honors, Phi Theta Kappa membership, Educators Rising Honor Society, and TRiO Support Services awards.
HCC names Pongratz as new head volleyball coach
Leah Pongratz has been named head volleyball coach for the 2019-20 academic year at Hagerstown Community College.
HCC middle college students to graduate
The fifth class of students in the STEMM Technical Middle College (STMC) at Hagerstown Community College will graduate from HCC on Saturday. Fifteen students were recognized at a special ceremony on Tuesday for their significant accomplishments in earning associate degrees from HCC at the same time they are completing high school. The program includes educational pathways in STEMM (science, technology, engineering, math, and medical) fields.
Organizations sponsor girls engineering and manufacturing courses at HCC
With support from several local organizations, HCC has been able to expand its engineering and manufacturing offerings for girls entering grades six through eight. Through HCC’s College for Kids, three week-long classes are giving girls the opportunity to use 3-D printers and robots to create, problem solve, and get hands-on learning.
HCC Alumni Association to host cruise preview
The HCC Alumni Association will host a free cruise preview meeting on Saturday, June 8, at 10:30 a.m., in the Career Programs Building, rooms 211 and 213, on HCC’s main campus, for the upcoming 2020 Alumni & Friends Cruise.
HCC to offer solar installer class
HCC is offering a Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Installer class starting on May 20, provided under a grant from the Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation. The grant funding is part of the state’s EARN green industry funding, which targets training and upskilling for individuals in the alternative energy sector.
HCC student awarded Maryland Law Enforcement Scholarship
HCC student Curtis Chedester, of Maugansville, was recently awarded a $1,000 scholarship from the Maryland Law Enforcement Officers, Inc. The scholarship was established for Maryland students in good academic standing who are planning a career in law enforcement and have financial need.
Foundation scholarships available for HCC students
HCC's College Advancement Office is now accepting applications for scholarships offered through the HCC Foundation. The deadline for the 2019-2020 academic year is Saturday, June 1. Scholarships are based on criteria such as financial need and academic promise.
HCC to hold spring student art exhibit
HCC will hold its spring student art exhibit from Monday, April 22, through Friday, April 26, in the Kepler Center on HCC’s main campus. The opening reception will be held on Monday, April 22, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. This event is free and the public is invited to attend.
HCC sociology class held fundraiser
Students in Professor Daniel Madron’s civic engagement class at HCC recently held a fundraising event to benefit Holly Place, as part of a class project. A total of $5,095 was raised from sponsorships, registration fees, and personal donations.
