Hagerstown Community College’s Continuing Education and Community Services Division is offering a variety of lead paint abatement courses. The amount of courses offered in this area has increased due to a recent EPA law that went into effect in April 2010, which stipulates that contractors performing renovation, repair, and painting projects that disturb lead-based pain in homes, child care facilities, and schools built before 1978 must be certified in addition to following specific work practices to prevent lead contamination.
Beginning in May 2010, HCC will offer four courses geared towards contractors that need recertification in order to adhere to the new EPA guidelines. Courses offered include “EPA Certified Lead Paint Renovator;” “Lead Paint M&R Supervisor Training for Maryland;” “Lead Paint Visual Inspector;” and “Lead Paint Supervisor Refresher Course.” Courses will be offered periodically between May and October.
