Small Engine Repair
Whether for fun or profit, you can service small engines found in lawn equipment, motorboats, snow blowers or garden equipment. Never have another equipment breakdown you can't trouble shoot! Hands-on shop activities and expert instruction will introduce you to the principles of two-cycle and four-cycle engine operation, fuel and exhaust systems, ignition components, lubrication systems, and cooling systems. Tools and equipment provided but appropriate safety clothing required for shop activities. (Textbook required)
Forklift Operator Training
Pick, travel, and place loads with confidence after completing this hands-on class for forklift operators. Walk through procedures for forklift inspection, maintaining lift stability and tip-over prevention, loading and unloading trailers, and identifying forklift types and operations. Classroom and practical training meet the requirements of OSHA 1910.178(l). (Textbook included)
Preparing for the Home Improvement Exam
Contractors or subcontractors providing alteration, remodeling, repair or replacement work on homes in Maryland must be MHIC licensed. You can prepare for the Maryland Home Improvement Contractor examination in this intensive and accelerated course. Expert instructor guidance and course materials help you understand the requirements for the MHIC. (Textbook included)
Instrumentation/Process Control
For individuals providing manufacturing or advanced facilities support, this class introduces the application of typical process control systems used in today's industries to measure such items as level, flow, pressure, and temperature. Students will learn how data is collected and used to monitor, test and troubleshoot systems. Prerequisites: CNT 110 Fundamentals of Electricity. (Textbook Required)
Advanced Small Engine Repair
For the serious small engine mechanic, this course provides you with advanced instruction on diagnosing, disassembling, and repairing a variety of transmissions and power trains. Topics include hydrostatic transmissions and transaxles, clutch/manual transmissions and differentials, and power distribution systems for snow blowers, lawn and garden tractors and power mowers. Hydraulic systems and advanced electrical systems diagnostics will be covered. Upon successful completion of Small Engine Repair and Advanced Small Engine Repair, students will be able to test for the written section of the national Small Engine Certification program. List of required hand tools first night of class (all other tools and equipment provided). Prerequisite: completion of Small Engine Repair. (Textbook required)
