TUTOR
Duties: The following are the essential functions necessary to perform this job.
-To adapt various tutoring strategies to facilitate all learning styles & meet the needs of learners
-To maintain current information with the courses tutored to include collaborating with faculty as needed
-Complete all required paperwork related to this position
Special Skills Needed: A commitment to maintain a consistent schedule throughout the semester is necessary in order to ensure an optimal
tutoring environment You must also meet the following requirements:
-be a student at Hagerstown Community College
-demonstrate knowledge of the content area
-grade of "B" or higher in the content area and/or faculty recommendation
-excellent communication and study skills
-education major or experience preferred, but not required

Fort Ritchie Student Worker
Duties: The student worker will be responsible for assisting the Coordinator at the Fort Ritchie extension site. Job duties will include assisting students and faculty at the site, filing/ general office duties, answering the phone, overseeing the building in the absence of the Coordinator.
Hours per Week: 10-15
Additional Information: Many evening hours available

Grounds Worker
Duties: General grounds care w/ heavy emphasis on grass mowing from Apr - Oct. Duties also include edging, trimming, weeding, trash control, raking, mulching, assisting w/ landscaping projects, etc. Flower, shrub and tree care. Winters include assisting w/ snow removal.
Special Skills Needed: Most important is willingness to work and learn. Be able to work in various, often extreme weather conditions (heat, cold, wind, rain). Be able to use or learn variety power equipment including push and riding mowers of various types, trimmers, edgers, blowers, chainsaw. Ability to drive gator cart, tractor; truck helpful.
Hours per Week: up to 25
Additional Information: Lots of on-the-job training & learning. Learn to identify plants, shrubs, trees, weeds & proper care. Lots of outside work. Summer employment available with eligibility.

Developmental English Student Worker
Duties: Will be responsible for working with Developmental English students on a one-to-one basis and in small groups in the Student Success Center, assisting all students with computer/technical difficulties related to the use of authorized software programs in the Student Success Center\'s Writing Lab, overseeing activities in the Student Success Center in the absence of an Instructional Assistant and/or under the supervision of an Instructional Assistant, assisting with the maintenance of Blackboard sites, general office duties such as filing and data entry, and developing a working knowledge of software, classroom practices, and assessment policies in use with Developmental English courses.
Special Skills Needed: Ability to type and knowledge of MS Word (ME or above) required, familiarity with MS Access preferred, willingness to learn and use content directed software programs and advanced content terminology, advanced computer/internet literacy skills, and successful completion of ENG-101 or above.
Hours per Week: 20

Duties: Student support worker to assist the Director in day-to-day operations. Duties are commensurate with skills and will range from answering phone, to organizing and maintaining files, to data collection and entry.
Special Skills Needed: Good English and Math skills; computer literate with knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel and PowerPoint; organization and filing. Student must be motivated and professional.
Hours per Week: 20-25
Additional Information: This is an excellent training opportunity for a student interested in Office Management, Engineering or Construction and Project Mgt.

STUDENT AMBASSADORS
Duties: Ambassadors are responsible for greeting students in the ASA lobby & assisting students with advising and registration questions/processes. Ambassadors work directly with the advising dept. to ensure an efficient flow of students. Ambassadors will assist students with questions, completion of applications and forms, and with using web-advisor.
Special Skills Needed: Ambassadors must be highly motivated & professional. Excellent interpersonal skills and a friendly demeanor are essential. Ambassadors must be model students and citizens. A comprehensive knowledge of college procedures is helpful.
Hours per Week: (5-20)
Additional Information: Pick up application in Career Center, complete and submit to Mike Martin or Chris Baer in the Advising Department. Positions will be available effective May 12 for the summer semester.

WELCOME DESK ASSISTANT
Duties: Primary duty of this position is to cover the Welcome Desk in the ASA Lobby. Welcome Desk Assistants are responsible for greeting students, entering students into the advising database, and answering basic questions.
Special Skills Needed: Must be friendly, professional and knowledgeable about HCC departments and processes. Assistants must possess good communication and interpersonal skills, as well as have basic computer skills.
Hours per Week: (5-20)

Academic Testing Center
Duties: Maintain security of tests & privacy of test-taker information. Assist test-takers with scheduling appointments, signing in to test, & seating in the Academic Testing Center; provide friendly & courteous service and maintain a customer-oriented attitude in the work place; fulfill tasks necessary for the daily operation of the Academic Testing Center including filing, copying, cleaning & computer and facilities maintenance. Have a knowledge of test center operations in order to answer questions from students and faculty.
Special Skills Needed: Must be a self motivated and independent worker with the ability to anticipate the needs of the workplace and fulfill tasks in an efficient manner. Must work well with others. Must have basic computer skills including MS Word & Excel proficiency. MS Access knowledge (preferred); Graphic Design or Web design experience a plus. Experience working in testing environment is a plus.
Hours per Week: 15-30 depending on availability
Additional Information: 1 or more positions may be open depending on availability of current employees. Student worker may also work concurrently as a Tutor in their field of study.
