What are the entrance requirements for the training program?
Must currently possess a valid license
Should be at least 21 years old, but, must be at least 18.
Must be able to pass a D.O.T. Physical
Present a driving record

I am not a Maryland resident. Do I need to transfer my license to Maryland?
No. If you are currently licensed in Pennsylvania, West Virginia or Virginia, CDL testing and licensing will take place in your state of residence.

What if I have a less than perfect record?
A good driving record will be crucial in gaining employment. Infractions such as DUI/DWI, suspensions, excessive points, or points associated with aggressive driving will decrease employability. A driving record must be submitted to the program manager. Criminal records, felonies in particular, will significantly limit employment opportunities.

Do you have job placement assistance?
Yes. Representatives from local and nationally based trucking companies visit each class to provide information about their company and to recruit for drivers upon completion of training. The current job placement rate is over 95%.

What level of income can I expect to earn at entry level?
As an entry level Class A driver, starting pay would be approximately $35,000. This may be a conservative figure depending on the company and the type of driving involved. Data collected from previous CVT students reflects a starting income of $39,000.

Do I need a CDL learners permit before I begin?
It is not necessary, however, it is highly recommended due to time constraints with practical exam scheduling. This is especially relevant for West Virginia residents because of application processing time.

Where does the training take place?
Classroom and practical experience will take place at our training facility at Mack Trucks, Inc. in Hagerstown, MD.

How many students are typically in a class?
The class limit is 12. The student to instructor ratio is 4:1.

What is the program success/pass rate?
The training pass rate is 100%. The testing pass rate through the state examination is 98%.

What credentials will I receive upon successful completion of this training?
A certificate will be issued through Hagerstown Community College.
After successfully passing the practical portion of driver testing, a Class A, Commercial Drivers License (CDL), will be issued through your state of residence.

Is Financial Aid available?
Yes, opportunities exist for funding through state and federal grant monies, if you qualify. Low interest rate student loans may also be available. A FAFSA Form is required in both instances. A GED or high school diploma is required to receive financial aid. Specific questions may be addressed through the Student Financial Aid Office at 301-790-2800 extension 473.

Are there any other options for payment of tuition and fees?
A payment plan may be arranged through FACTS Tuition Management. Typically, a down payment is required and the repayment term is short. You may inquire by calling the Finance Office at extension 396.

Other Educational Loan options exist but carry a higher interest rate than student loans through Financial Aid. The applications for these loans are handled directly through the loan company and generally have a quick application turn around time. Although there are no educational requirements for these loans there will be employment and income verifications.
