Former HCC early college student speaks to 2023 grads

Olivia Lohman was the guest speaker at the recent Hagerstown Community College Early College Degree Program celebration ceremony.

Lohman, a 2015 Boonsboro High School graduate, was one of the original nine graduates of the program (formerly the Middle College) in 2015. Since receiving her associate degree at HCC, she has earned a bachelor’s degree, and recently completed a medical degree at the WVU School of Medicine. She will begin a residency program this summer at LSU, to pursue dual board certification in emergency medicine and family medicine.

“By taking college level classes at a younger age, I was able to better handle the transition to higher education because I had already developed the critical thinking skills required to succeed after high school,” Lohman said.

A total of 189 students have graduated from the early college program since it began in 2013, and transferred to 61 different four-year colleges and universities. To learn more, visit www.hagerstowncc.edu/earlycollegedegree.
