HCC and Purdue Global create transfer agreement

(December 4, 2018) – Officials at Hagerstown Community College and Purdue Global recently created an educational alliance agreement that will benefit students who attend both institutions.

“We are excited that this transfer agreement with Purdue Global will give additional options to our students as they select a university for their bachelor’s degrees, and education pathways that will lead them to meaningful careers,” said Jim Klauber, HCC president.

Students who have completed an associate degree at HCC will be able to transfer to Purdue Global, where they will receive an 18 percent tuition discount. Those who transfer from HCC without completing the associate degree will receive a 10 percent discount at Purdue Global. Tuition benefits extend to HCC’s eligible employees, alumni, and families of employees.

“Our two institutions have a shared history of serving Washington County for more than 70 years. Today's signing, and this agreement, are historic in that it marks the first time in that shared history that we have joined forces to provide a pathway for educational attainment,” said Chris Motz, regional vice president at Purdue Global. “Together HCC and Purdue Global will provide an opportunity for local students to obtain advanced higher education to serve the area's workforce needs.”

“This agreement will enable HCC graduates to obtain their bachelor's degree faster and at a reduced cost. It will also provide pathways that will help the community improve its bachelor degree attainment level. Purdue Global is proud to provide flexible, online degree options in partnership with strong and supportive community colleges, like HCC, across the country,” said Chancellor of Purdue Global, Betty Vandenbosch. Purdue Global will provide individual student advising for program participants. Specific transfer agreements have been created for criminal justice, human services, business administration, and nursing. Course agreements have been created for cybersecurity and networking technology.

Purdue Global is a public, nonprofit institution that serves more than 30,000 students, most of whom earn their degrees online. In addition to the campus in Hagerstown (formerly Kaplan University), Purdue Global has operations in Indiana, Iowa, Nebraska, Maine, Missouri and Wisconsin. HCC serves more than 6,000 credit student each year and offers more than 100 programs of study, available through in-class, online, and hybrid instruction.
