HCC to host Washington County Police Academy

(April 3, 2019) –Hagerstown Community College’s Continuing Education and Workforce Development Division recently signed an agreement with the Hagerstown Police Department and Washington County Sheriff’s Office to host the Washington County Police Academy (WCPA) on HCC’s main campus.

The WCPA is a non-credit, entry-level police training academy designed to provide students with the knowledge, skills, and understanding necessary to function effectively in all areas of law enforcement. Training includes classroom instruction and practical and physical experiences per the standards set forth by The Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commissions (MPCTC).

The first academy starts in April and graduates in October. The WCPA is currently accepting Maryland law enforcement agency sponsored cadets and volunteer self-sponsored applicants for its second academy beginning in November 2019. Volunteer self-sponsored applications will be accepted based on availability. As a volunteer self-sponsored cadet, obtaining a certificate of completion from WCPA allows a graduate to be eligible to be hired by any law enforcement agency in the state of Maryland.
