HCC provides free professional clothing to students

During the fall semester, Hagerstown Community College’s Internship and Job Services Office has been conducting its annual clothing drive to collect clean, lightly worn, and ready-to-wear professional clothing and accessories. The donated items are made available, free of charge, to students who are preparing for internships and employment opportunities.

Typically, the items are offered to students in April, but this year, the response has been so successful that a special one-day pop-up shop was held in early December. As a result, 109 clothing items were given away to students.

Since 2018, the Career Closet has served an average of 150 students annually. Students with the WCPS Marshall Street School Job Development Program assist in the coordination of this annual event.

The clothing drive will continue through March 31, 2023. Acceptable items include jackets, shirts, blouses, skirts, dresses, pants, suits, shoes, ties, scarves, and jewelry/accessories. Donation collection boxes are located in Hagerstown at the following locations:

  • Washington County Chamber of Commerce (1 S. Potomac Street)
  • Marshall Street School (1350 Marshall Street)
  • Washington County Public Schools (10435 Downsville Pike)
  • HCC Valley Mall Campus (17301 Valley Mall Road)
  • HCC Main Campus (11400 Robinwood Drive – ASA Building, ATC Building, CP Building, and Student Center)

HCC’s Career Closet will offer its full pop-up shop on campus the week of April 14 to 17, 2023. Items are available to students by private appointment as needed.
