HCC receives $50,000 donation

(November 1, 2018) – Anton Mayer and his business partner, John Schaffer, of Jupiter, Fl., recently made a $50,000 donation to the Hagerstown Community College Foundation, in memory of Anton’s wife, Dr. Lindette (Minnich) Mayer, who died after a battle with cancer, on October 12, 2018. She was 79 years old.

“Lindette was a very passionate professor, guidance counselor, and vocational expert who helped many young people become successful in life,” said Anton Mayer.

Lindette Mayer, a 1960 graduate of Hagerstown Junior College, loved education and had a great career start at HJC as a professor in political science.

“Besides counseling and teaching political science, Lindette also participated in many political and charitable activities. She was always a wonderful compass in life to those around her,” said Anton Mayer.

The Dr. Lindette Mayer Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to HCC education or nursing majors, residents of Washington County, have a financial need, and maintain a 3.0 grade point average.

“We really appreciate Mr. Mayer choosing to remember Dr. Mayer with these amazing scholarships that will help our HCC students learn and grow,” said Ashley Whaley, director of college advancement. “It’s wonderful that he’s decided to keep the memory alive of a very special lady who also began both her educational journey and career path at HJC.”

A named endowed scholarship given to HCC is held in trust by the HCC Foundation, Inc. and the interest from the gift is awarded annually to HCC students to help cover their tuition need. The Dr. Lindette Mayer Memorial Scholarship will remain in trust for perpetuity and will be a living legacy to Dr. Mayer that will benefit generations of future HCC students.
