Mike South named Distinguished Volunteer

Michael South, of Hagerstown, was recently recognized by the Association of Fundraising Professionals as a Distinguished Volunteer, as part of National Philanthropy Day.

South, who graduated from Hagerstown Junior College in 1965, is a dedicated volunteer at HCC, working with the HCC Alumni Association and with the HCC Foundation, Inc. He served as the co-chair of HCC’s Gem for Generations Scholarship Campaign alumni initiative, during which time he spent many hours meeting with alumni and friends of HCC to encourage contributions to scholarships and commitments to HCC’s 1946 Society, an estate planning program.

South is also a member of the HCC Alumni Association’s Golf Tournament Committee and with his help, the 2022 Alumni & Friends Golf Tournament raised the highest net income in its 29-year history. He serves on the HCC Alumni Association’s Board of Directors and is currently serving as the president-elect.

All of HCC’s scholarship funds go into the HCC Foundation Endowment. Only the interest generated from those funds is used annually for scholarships, allowing each donation to benefit students into perpetuity. To learn more, visit www.hagerstowncc.edu/hcc-foundation.
