Rasmussen family creates HCC nursing scholarship

(July 1, 2021) – The Hagerstown Community College Foundation recently received a $27,000 donation from the children of Donna Lou (Stearns) Rasmussen, to create a scholarship in her memory.

The Donna Rasmussen Nursing Scholarship has been established to assist students that are majoring in nursing and have at least a 2.5 GPA. Preference will be given to those with financial need.

“It's been slightly over a year since we lost our dear mother. To honor her lifetime of service, her family has created the Donna Rasmussen Nursing Scholarship at Hagerstown Community College,” said son Jeff Rasmussen. “Just like her tireless efforts, this endowment will work in perpetuity to provide scholarships for deserving students in HCC's Nursing Program--a highly rated program with impressive credentials, awards, and graduation rates."

Donna was a career long nurse who lived a humble life of service to her family and community. She worked in the hospital setting early in her career, then at Reeders Memorial Home in Boonsboro, and then in private medical practices. She also worked with the Washington County Health Department’s home health program and volunteered for several area programs.
