Supplemental Application for the Dental Hygiene Program

Supplemental Application for the Dental Hygiene Program

BEFORE SUBMITTING A SUPPLEMENTAL APPLICATION FOR A HEALTH SCIENCE PROGRAM, YOU MUST SUBMIT AN ADMISSION APPLICATION.

The supplemental application for Dental Hygiene and the following requirements must be completed and submitted to the Admissions Office by the application deadline of April 1st.

  1. Submit a completed Dental Hygiene Program Observation Form (8 hours of observation) to the Admissions Office. Forms older than three years at the application deadline will not be accepted.

  2. Submit official transcripts from all colleges attended by the application deadline. HCC calculates cumulative GPA from all college coursework as part of the scoring process (students who took classes at HCC do not need to submit official HCC transcripts). All transcripts must be complete and show grades or outcomes for each class taken or the status of in-progress for classes that are in-progress at the program application deadline. Transcripts from outside of the United States must be evaluated by World Education Services (wes.org).

  3. Complete the TEAS test by the program application deadline (April 1st) with minimum scores of 63% Overall, 65% in Reading, 65% in science, 60% in English/Language Usage, and a 60% in Math. Official scores must be submitted to the Admissions Office (students who took the TEAS test at HCC do not need to submit an official copy but are asked to bring a copy of the scores or email the scores to the Admissions Office). TEAS scores are valid for 3 years. An explanation of the TEAS test can be found at www.hagerstowncc.edu/teas.

  4. The following program-required General Education classes must be completed by the April 1st deadline. The courses include ENG 101, BIO 116 (or BIO 203 completed, BIO 204 in progress), CHM 101, MAT 116 or an approved general education math course, and PSY 101. The following courses must be completed prior to the start of the program (program begins in the fall semester): BIO 205, COM 103 or COM 108, and a three-credit arts and humanities course from the approved General Education course list.
    • Completion of all required science courses must be within five years of the program application deadline.
    • A minimum cumulative grade point average for all college coursework of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale is required. In addition, a minimum grade point average of 2.5 for all program required general education courses is required. While this is the minimum requirement, it is advised that students have the highest-grade point average possible for the best chance of being selected into the program.
    • A grade of “C” or higher is required for all program required general education courses. “D’s” and “F’s” must be retaken and be completed before applying for the program. While this is the minimum requirement, it is recommended that students obtain the highest grade possible in each class.

Those students not admitted to the August class will be placed on a standby list until August 1. The standby list is dissolved after August 1, and students who desire admission to the dental hygiene program in the subsequent year must fill out another Supplemental Application form.

The Dental Hygiene program is a Maryland Health Manpower Shortage program. All students who apply for this program must be eligible to work in the State of Maryland at the application deadline and throughout the program.
