Computer Training and Testing

HCC offers a variety of computer courses geared towards beginning, intermediate, and advanced use, as well as courses aimed at the industry professional. Course times are flexible and include evening classes, one-day workshops, and online classes. In addition, HCC also provides a computer testing area and exam site where IT professionals can take job-related certification exams such as the IC3 or Microsoft Office tests. Contract training resources are also available for businesses needing to retrain employees or enhance the computer skills of their staff.

A Certified Fiber Optic Technician (CFOT) is prepared to meet the demands of the growing home and business market connected to the Internet through a broadband fiber installation. The CFOT course covers the theory related to fiber operations and provides a hands-on component where emphasis is placed on the practical aspects of working with fiber-optic cables, including termination, fusion splicing, and testing.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Identify fiber-optic terminology and cable types and organizations that govern installation standards.
  • Select the appropriate fiber optic connectors, terminate a fiber connection, and complete fiber splicing while maintaining signal performance.
  • Use the appropriate tools for fiber-optic installations and observe safety procedures when pulling and handling the material.
  • Interpret a project specification sheet and identify installation considerations including network components such as IDF’s, MDF’s, media converters, connector panels, and trays.
  • Test a fiber-optic installation for signal loss using the correct tools and parameters.
