Hagerstown Community College political science instructor Eric Schwartz recently had a scholarly article published on the website, PoliticalScienceNow.com, a site maintained by the American Political Science Association, to cover people, research, and news in political science.
Two local charitable organizations recently made donations to Hagerstown Community College, to benefit HCC’s students who are military Veterans.
Hagerstown Community College will hold its annual Martin Luther King Jr. Diversity Celebration on Monday, Jan. 21, from 1 to 3 p.m., in the Kepler Theater at HCC. The celebration will feature keynote speaker Antonio D. Underwood, Fulbright Scholar to Serbia, owner/CEO of Tone East Music/TEM Technology, LLC, and author of The Third Eye. A dramatic rendition of Dr. King’s “I Have a Dream” speech will be performed by the Reverend Darin Mency, from Hagerstown’s Greater Campher Temple.
The STEMM Technical Middle College (STMC) at Hagerstown Community College is now accepting applications for the fall 2019 class, with a priority deadline of March 1. Interested students and parents are encouraged to attend one of the program information sessions on Wednesdays, Jan. 23, Feb. 6, and Feb. 20, at 4 p.m., in the Learning Resource Center, room 254.
During the months of November and December, the Student Government Association (SGA) at Hagerstown Community College held a blanket drive to benefit local non-profits. More than 50 blankets were collected and donated to Soldiers’ Angels, Project Linus, and Humane Society of Washington County.
Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), the national honor society at Hagerstown Community College, recently accepted 30 new members. To be eligible for PTK, students must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher and must have completed 12 credit hours of college-level work at HCC.
Program information sessions for the Maryland and HCC Promise Programs will be held on Jan. 8 and 24, and Feb. 5 and 21, at 4 p.m., in the Student Center on HCC’s main campus. College Promise programs make the cost of community college more affordable to qualifying students.
Hagerstown Community College recently announced its dean’s list for the fall 2018 semester. To qualify for the dean’s list, students must be attending school full-time (12 credits or more of college-level courses, 101 and above) and earn a minimum quality-point average of 3.50 for the most recent semester.
Hagerstown Community College recently recognized Joan Johnson, professor of English composition, as the faculty of the year for 2018.
Students studying mechanical engineering technology and advanced manufacturing recently went on a tour of the Volvo plant in Hagerstown.
The Spring Job Fair will be held in the Student Center on April 19 from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. in the Student Center. Employers will be hiring for full and part-time jobs, seasonal positions, and internships. The event is open to all HCC students and alumni.
