Hagerstown Community College’s Alumni Association will host its annual Alumni & Friends Cruise in winter 2017. The eight-day, seven-night cruise will be held from February 24 through March 3, 2017, aboard Holland America’s “ms Oosterdam” cruise ship. The cruise is open to the public and everyone is invited to attend.
A group of Washington County employees recently graduated from the Hagerstown Community College “Going for the Gold” leadership training program. Sixteen employees completed the 56-hour program which covers leadership topics including conflict resolution, managing change, and professional communications.
Hagerstown Community College recently held its fourth annual TRiO Upward Bound Reception. The event represents an end-of-the-year celebration for the TRiO Upward Bound students and their achievements during the 2015-2016 school year. Following remarks from HCC President Guy Altieri, attendees heard from student speaker Tara Buskirk, and keynote speaker, Asha’ Jones.
The Hagerstown Community College Alumni Association will host the U.S. Navy Sea Chanters as part of its annual Red, White and Blue Summer Concert Series, on Friday, August 12, at 6:15 p.m., in HCC’s Alumni Amphitheater. Under the direction of Chief Musician Casey E. Campbell, the group performs a variety of music including choral arrangements and Broadway show tunes and travels throughout the United States, often appearing at state and national events.
Christine Ohl-Gigliotti has been named dean of students at Hagerstown Community College. In the role of dean of students at HCC, Ohl-Gigliotti will provide leadership and oversight of student affairs.
Due to insufficient enrollment to ensure a quality experience for all participants, The Mid-Atlantic Fiction Writers Institute scheduled for August 12 and 13 has been canceled. Those who have already registered for MAFWI will receive a full refund. The Hub City Teen Writers Institute will be held as scheduled.
The HCC Dance Company is looking for new members for the fall 2016 semester. This group is comprised of intermediate to advanced dancers with previous dance experience. Students interested in being considered should contact Alyssa Little by emailing email@example.com.
Hagerstown Community College’s Robinwood Players will perform William Shakespeare’s classic tragedy, “Macbeth,” Thursday, August 4, through Sunday, August 7, in the Kepler Theater on HCC’s main campus. Ticket costs range from $10 to $20, and can be reserved by visiting www.hagerstowncc.edu/productions.
Hagerstown Community College graduate Madeline Harmon, of Mercersburg, Pa., was recently accepted into the Disney College Program at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida, from May 23, 2016 to January 5, 2017.
JLG Industries, Inc., recently sponsored a week-long engineering course at Hagerstown Community College for girls entering grades six through eight. With a gift of $3,450, JLG covered the tuition for the 13 girls who applied for and participated in the class, entitled “Girls Exploring Engineering.”
