HCC receives $75K ARC grant to benefit dental programs

Hagerstown Community College has been awarded a $75,000 grant from the Appalachian Region Commission (ARC) to upgrade and replace the dental chairs used in the dental hygiene and dental assisting programs. The ARC award augments $75,000 in donations from 12 dental practices in the region.

The new dental chairs ensure students in the dental hygiene and assisting programs are trained with the most up-to-date equipment. HCC has increased the training capacity of these programs to meet the growing demand for well-trained dental hygienists and assistants in the region. HCC is one of only seven schools in Maryland that has an accredited dental hygiene program, making the program an essential anchor institution for health care education in the state.

HCC is grateful for the support of local dentists who were instrumental in providing matching funds for the ARC grant: Dr. Al Smith; Allegany Dental Care P. A.; Dr. Edward R. Beachley; Dr. Byron K. Byrd; Dr. Sidney E. Cradduck; Dr. Jon A. Pike; Potomac Dental Centre; River City Dental; Toothman Orthodontics; Valley Dental Associates; Wilson Orthodontics; and Dr. Robert R. and Mrs. Linda Zimmerman.
