HCC to offer tax preparer courses in partnership with Saunders Tax & Accounting

The Workforce Solutions and Continuing Education Division at Hagerstown Community College is offering a new Individual Tax Preparer Program this October. The two-part course will be offered October 10 to December 14, with two time options from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., or 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., every Tuesday and Thursday, at Saunders Tax & Accounting located at 18710 Crestwood Dr. Hagerstown, Maryland or online.

The program introduces participants to IRS filing requirements, credits and deductions, determining the proper filing status of a client, expenses and miscellaneous incomes, how to identify the right forms to use when preparing a tax return, qualified business deductions, and tax updates. Upon successful completion of this program students will be prepared to complete individual and small business tax returns. Students would also be eligible to sit for the Maryland Tax Preparer Licensure Exam.

“Learning how to prepare taxes not only provides the student with an employable skill, but also it is an ideal course to take for students of all ages so that they can understand how to prepare their own tax returns,” said Bev Stitely, owner of Saunders Tax & Accounting. “As the shortage of tax preparers continues nationwide, the demand for tax professionals is expected to continue through the upcoming tax season.”
