Meetings: General SGA meetings are held the third Thursday of each month during the fall and spring semesters at 3 p.m. in the Student Center conference room.
Elections: HCC students in good academic standing with at least 12 credits and a 2.5 GPA are eligible to run for an SGA officer position. Senators need at least a 2.5 GPA. Elections are held in April, and officers begin their duties in August.
What is the SGA?
The SGA is a vehicle for involvement in the college and acts as the official student representative body. The Student Government Association serves as the voice of the student body on issues concerning campus life and participates in shaping policies and student regulations.
All credit students, both full- and part-time, are members of the SGA. This governing body was created to enhance the quality of student life and the success of students through participation in social, cultural, educational and recreational opportunities. All allocations of campus fees are processed through the Student Government Association.
Elections are conducted each spring for the executive officers. One sophomore senator and two freshman senators are selected from the student body to serve on the Executive Committee. All students are encouraged to attend the monthly SGA meetings and participate in SGA events. The Student Government Association office is located in the Student Center. Student Activities Finance Board (SAFB)
The SAFB was created to ensure fair and responsible allocation of student activity fees to clubs and organizations at Hagerstown Community College.
The student activities coordinator serves as chairperson of the SAFB. The president and treasurer of the Student Government Association, along with two administrators from the finance office compose the decision-making body of the SAFB. The SAFB members examine budget requests submitted by clubs and organizations and make allocations according to established budget guidelines. A club or organization must be registered with the Student Government Association and possess a current charter in order to be eligible to receive funding. Any questions regarding the SAFB or club/organization budgets should be directed to the student activities coordinator at 240-500-2225.
The Program Board consists of the SGA vice president, SGA senators, and members at large. The Program Board is responsible for programming events and activities for all segments of HCC's student population. Membership is open to all full- and part-time students. Members meet once per month and are responsible for planning and organizing student activities. Students interested in planning activities are welcome to join.
