Student Financial Aid Changes Academic Year 2026-2027
Due to the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBA), federal financial aid will undergo a series of impactful changes. These changes will impact all aspects of financial aid for all students.
Lifetime Loan Limit
- New lifetime borrowing limit of $257,500 on all federal student loans. This limit excludes Parent PLUS and Graduate PLUS loan in its calculation.
- If you borrowed a Federal Direct Loan before July 1st, 2026, you can continue to borrow under the current loan limits for 3 academic years, or for the remainder of your program of study. Whichever is less.
Pell Grant
- Students with a Student Aid Index (SAI) equal to or greater than 14,790 will be ineligible to receive Pell Grant.
- Students who receive grants or scholarships from non-federal sources (institutional, state, or private) that cover their entire cost of attendance (COA) are ineligible to receive a Pell Grant, even if otherwise eligible for the program.
Undergraduate Student Loans
- Direct loan amounts will be determined based on enrollment intensity.
- Estimated Gross Loan Amounts, not accounting for loan origination fee:
