Governor's Emergency Education Relief Scholarship Information

GEER Scholarship for Workforce Training Certificates Application

The Governor of the State of Maryland has established a fund to help Maryland residents who have been impacted by COVID-19 enrolled in workforce training classes that lead to a labor market recognized credential so that students can return quickly to work. Hagerstown Community College will distribute this funding to eligible students until March 2023 or until funds are depleted, whichever occurs first. 

Eligibility Criteria:

This scholarship is available to:

  • Lawfully eligible to work in the United States
  • Have been affected by COVID-19, including job loss, reduction in hours, unstable employment, or challenges with finding new employment

All students must submit documents to prove eligibility.

Hagerstown Community College's GEER workforce programs include: 

  • Certified Production Technician
  • Certified Medical Assistant
  • Certified Nursing Assistant/Geriatric Nursing Assistant 
  • Certified Peer Recovery Specialist
  • Construction Trades - Pre-Apprenticeship
  • Diesel Technician
  • Forklift Operator
  • Nurse Refresher
  • Phlebotomy
  • Welding Technician
     

Important Information You Should Know:

  1. Funding is available for specific workforce programs listed above- this list is subject to change at any time. 
  2. Funds shall be used for tuition, fees, and associated costs of attendance that have not been met through another grant or scholarship by the State or employer.
  3. Funds are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. 
  4. Students must pledge to remain drug-free for the full term of the award.
  5. Students must take the WorkKeys assessment. 
  6. Students must provide their Social Security Number. 
  7. If you have suspended financial aid, contact the Hagerstown Community College Student Financial Aid Office. 
  8. Hagerstown Community College reserves the right to adjust or cancel your scholarship at any time if it is determined that you do not meet the qualifications. 
  9. Applying for a scholarship does not guarantee an award. 
  10. Scholarship recipients will be notified by e-mail upon decision. 
  11. Students should not expect refunds of the unused scholarship funds. 
  12. Scholarship funds not used within three months of being awarded may be canceled, and you will have to reapply. 
  13. Students must keep the college informed of any relevant name, address, e-mail, and phone number changes that will affect our ability to contact you. 
  14. Please note: The processing of your application may take up to 10 business days.
