Using online training and hands-on activities, the Automotive Service Technician program will prepare you to start a career servicing passenger and light duty vehicles. Online training that maps to Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) exams provides a consistent environment to train the next generation of auto technicians in the multi-part program.

The first class is the program will be offered this fall!

Automotive Fundamentals

Start your journey in the Automotive Service Technician program with the fundamental concepts and tools to be successful in the repair shop. Fundamentals will cover an introduction to the industry, safety best practices when working with vehicles, multi-point vehicle inspections, common tools in the shop, electrical theory and testing, and vehicle engineering theory. Combination of in-person and online content requiring broadband access to the Internet.

  1. Identify employment opportunities in the industry and different types of automotive shop environments.
  2. Apply best practices for working in a shop safely with tools and vehicle lifts.
  3. Perform a vehicle walk around as part of a multi-point inspection and practice communicating results with a customer.
  4. Identify and use the appropriate tools in the shop to perform vehicle repair.
  5. Understand electrical automotive theory and practice use of tools for troubleshooting issues related to electrical/wiring systems.
