What is the Medical Assisting Program?
The Medical Assisting Program provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to perform administrative and clinical duties, enabling students to be an integral team member within a physician’s office. Students learn essential competencies surrounding initiating patient interactions, performing patient care, understanding lab collection procedures, and providing patient teaching. An emphasis will be placed on preparing for the National Healthcare Association Medical Assistant Certification.
What does a medical assistant do?
- Works closely with and under direct supervision of a physician
- Obtains and updates patient vitals and medical history
- Prepares examination rooms and assists physicians with patient examinations
- Performs patient specimen testing and prepares lab specimen processing
- Provides immunizations and medical injections
- Performs patient scheduling and chart updating
Where do medical assistants work?
- Hospitals
- Medical offices
- Outpatient clinics
- Other healthcare facilities
Why should I choose HCC’s Medical Assisting Program?

How long is the program?
The program completion timeline is approximately nine months, as well as an externship component of 100 hours.

Are there any additional fees?
Additional fees include books, physical exam, immunization/records, drug screen, background checks, scrubs, closed toe shoes, etc.
What documents do I need to upload for the application?
Applicants need to upload a driver’s license and proof of legal residency in the U.S. (birth certificate or passport, visa, etc.)
What does the scholarship cover?
Scholarships may be available to help offset the costs of the program. All awards are on a first-come, first-served basis. Due to the limited nature of funds, you MUST begin the application process as soon as possible for the best chance of an award.
What happens after I complete the application process?
WSCE staff will register you for the four medical assistant program classes. Staff CANNOT register you for these classes until you have registered and paid for the two pre-requisite courses (HCE-181 and HCE-108).
