Maczko named HCC’s head men’s basketball coach

Terry Maczko has been named the head men’s basketball coach at Hagerstown Community College. He has over 25 years of successful head coaching experience at the community college and high school levels, including 400 wins and 13 conference, region, and district championships.

“We are very excited to have Terry join our team,” said Athletic Director Amy Sterner. “He brings the necessary skills, experience, and proven success within the Region 20 that will greatly benefit our student athletes, on and off the court.”

Maczko most recently served as the head coach of men’s basketball at Edgewood High School, where he also served as a math teacher following retirement from Lockheed Martin. His prior JUCO coaching experience included head coach at Baltimore City Community College (BCCC) from 2006 to 2019. From 2010 to 2019, he also served as BCCC’s associate director of athletics. He has been involved with the basketball programs at Harcum College, Community College of Baltimore County, and Goucher College.

“I'm grateful to our Athletic Director Amy Sterner and the administration for the opportunity to lead this program. As former head coach at CCBC Essex and Baltimore City CC, I am very familiar with the schools in the Maryland JUCO and what it takes to compete for championships in this league. My goals are to develop and graduate outstanding young men and elevate Hagerstown Hawks basketball back to a championship level.”

Maczko holds a Master of Science degree in physical education from McDaniel College and a Bachelor of Science degree in computer science and mathematics from State University of New York at Potsdam. At HCC, he replaces Bernard Hopkins, who served as the head coach of the Hawks for 11 seasons before accepting the position of head men’s basketball coach at the Mississippi University for Women.
