HCC students honored at 2024 All-Maryland awards

Hagerstown Community College students Jake Klauber, Brynn Lietuvnikas, and Richard Riddle were recently recognized at the 2024 All-Maryland Community College Academic Team awards ceremony at Turf Valley in Ellicott City. They are three of 43 students recognized at the state level, and now qualify for nomination to the All-USA Community College Academic Team.

The All-Maryland Community College event is held each year to recognize exemplary academic and leadership achievement by community college students from across the state, who are members of the national Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.

Klauber, of Boonsboro, will graduate this spring from HCC’s Early College Degree Program, with an associate degree in biology. During his time at HCC, he served as the president of the Student Government Association, PTK Liaison to SGA, Hawkeye mascot, and student representative on the college Governance Council. He plans to transfer to Mississippi State University to pursue a bachelor’s degree in biology, with a focus on senescence research.

Lietuvnikas, from Clear Spring, will graduate from HCC this spring with an associate degree in arts and sciences. At HCC, she has served as the vice president of the PTK and treasurer of HCC’s Student Government Association. She plans to transfer to Hood College to pursue a nursing degree, with the ultimate goal to become a nurse practitioner. She received a $1,000 scholarship from PTK to further her studies.

Riddle, of Boonsboro, is completing the associate degree in commercial vehicle transportation administration at HCC. He currently works in the Fleet Services division at Washington County Public Schools, and is working toward his goal to attain a leadership position in that division. He was the valedictorian of the Class A truck driving program in the fall of 2023.

Nominations for the awards were made by HCC’s PTK advisors and college leadership. For information on HCC’s Pi Theta Chapter of PTK and eligibility requirements, visit https://hagerstowncc.libguides.com/ptk.
