HCC students to perform “Urinetown” musical

Hagerstown Community College students will perform the musical “Urinetown,” as their spring production. The show will be held at 7 p.m. on April 24 and 25, and 2 p.m. on April 26, in HCC’s Kepler Theater.

“Urinetown” follows the story of a city with a terrible water shortage caused by a twenty-year drought that has led to a government-enforced ban on private toilets. The citizens must use public amenities, regulated by a single malevolent company that profits by charging admission for one of humanity’s most basic needs. Amid the people, a hero decides that he has had enough and plans a revolution. The show is directed and choreographed by Alyssa Little, with music directed by John Milosich.

The performance is based on the book and lyrics by Greg Kotis. Music and lyrics were written by Mark Hollmann. Urinetown was produced on Broadway in September 2001 by the Araca Group and Dodger Theatricals in association with TheaterDreams, Inc. and Lauren Mitchell. “Urinetown” is presented by arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI).

Tickets are free for HCC students, faculty, and staff, as well as children five and under. General admission tickets are $15.50. Non-HCC students and senior admission tickets are $12.50. To purchase tickets in advance, visit the Kepler Theater ticketing website.
