Walk-Ins
Beginning on Monday June 16, 2025, the Registration & Student Support Office will be available for walk-in advising only. Students are encouraged to arrive at least two hours prior to closing to ensure there is enough time to be seen.
Virtual
Virtual advising appointments are available upon request. These appointments are reserved for long-distance and accessibility needs required by students. To schedule a virtual appointment, please contact the office directly by calling 240-500-2240.

If you schedule a video appointment, you will need to have a working webcam, and it must be turned on during the appointment. If this is not possible for you, an in person appointment will be required.

All new credit students, including incoming transfer students will need to meet with a Student Support Advisor to register for their first semester of classes. Early College Access students, which includes those who are taking college classes on HCC’s campus or online will also need to meet with a Student Support Advisor to register for their classes.

Student Support Advisors help new, current and returning students:

  • Review academic requirements, degree plans, and select classes
  • Help students choose a major or career path
  • Change majors
  • Transfer to a four-year college
  • Connect to college and community resources
  • Navigate challenges, both academic and non-academic

Students who are undecided or need assistance selecting a major are encouraged to complete a career assessment. Traitify or Focus2 Career links answers on the assessment to a certificate or degree program at Hagerstown Community College.

Faculty Mentors

Students who have earned more than 30 college credits in an associate degree program are eligible to benefit from the guidance of a Faculty Mentor. The Faculty Mentor is a full-time faculty member or academic division director who has deep knowledge of their academic programs and the careers related to those programs. Faculty Mentors share their expertise in the major and its career fields, review progress in the major, and assist with planning for experiential learning, internships, and transfer.

Some students are connected to additional HCC support people, for example, student-athletes, students with disabilities, and veterans.
